"The Definitive" de Rod Stewart contiene material grabado entre 1971 y 2004. Se publica en dos formatos: doble CD, y una edición de lujo con un DVD adicional con videoclips musicales.

Organizado de forma cronológica, los primeros años en solitario están representados por cortes como "Maggie May" y "You Wear It Well" de "Every Picture Tells A Story" (1971) y "Never A Dull Moment" (1972). El primer CD también incluye el "Stay With Me" de la época de The Faces. La segunda parte del CD 1 incluye temas como la balada "Sailing", el nº1 "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)", el top 10 "You're In My Heart" ó "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" extraido del álbum nº1 "Blondes Have More Fun" (1978).
